Educating patients has redefined my role as a psychologist.

I was trained to do psychodynamic work. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege to work in different settings and modalities — inpatient, outpatient, individual, family, group, trauma work, etc. Time and again, I am reminded that while various theoretical orientations may provide a framework for change, it is the belief in self-efficacy that sustains growth. Moreover, if I am to kindle that belief in patients, I must first help them learn.
